Little Phoenix and the Reign of Fists was a 2007 short that was made with a cast of beautiful and talented women who know how to take care of themselves. Trained in Thai Kickboxing, Savate, Aikido, Kung Fu and Mixed Martial Arts, these women did all of their own stunts and fight choreography.

Shaolin Sisters was a short that I made in 2004 and it features a simple hand to hand exchange between two sisters as they fight to control a tube of lipstick that they found in their laundry. Based on Shaolin kung-fu with a bit of Lotus style kung-fu, Donna Kim and Mai Cao give it all they’ve got in an epic backyard showdown that ends with more laundry.

Apostrophe (menas of production) is a short that I made in 2005 with Sarah Kenvyn, starring Darren O’Donnell. Based on Bill Kennedy and Darren Wershler-Henry’s poem apostrophe (means of production), this is a short about the office environment and the workers who are ultimately carbon copies of each other.

At 7:00 this morning, the sun was just making it’s way over the horizon. It was a fiery orange ball that left a pinkish glow on the bathroom wall. Winter is coming and the sun looks a little bit smaller, a little bit further away, a little bit colder. It’s Canada and we pride ourselves on our well-rounded seasons. Would summer mean any less if we didn’t have winter? Does distance really make the heart grow fonder? Are we destined to lose sight of that which we see everyday?

The best sound edit passes unnoticed. It’s unobtrusively loud, completing the picture and marrying itself with the black that lives between the frames.
